The Serpent and The Dragon – III – The Therving
The day has come for the tribe
And the enemy already tastes victory
Although beaten and broken
You’re still worth ten of them
They believe they have won
But, oh no, you’re not done
With one knee
On the ground
Your soul aches
And your body bleeds
You raise your head
And watch
As the legion grows near
The imminent defeat
You close your eyes
And breathe deep
Time stops
As buried memories emerge
Pure calmness washes over
Filling your veins with steel
You stand up
And calmly unsheathe your blade
The legionaries stand still
Sensing the shift
Of the balance of power
That now is gone
You look them in the eyes
And snarl with a cruel smile
From your throat a word is born
“Come”
“Flee and live some more
Or fight and perish by my sword
I bow to no man
I fear nothing
If I die
I die standing”
